What's New: 8.19.09

There is soooo much happening at the shop this week I don't know where to begin.

Fall/Winter Schedule is available in PDF format. The website is under construction and new classes are being loaded this week. A paper copy should be available at the shop by Thursday. Thanks to the teaching Staff for a great list of classes and Dawna for the graphics.

Sidewalk Construction is COMPLETE! YEAH! The UPS and FedEx guys can get in the front door with our daily deliveries of new yarns and stuff! This blast is so full that there is not enough room to list all of the yarns we have unpacked. Stop in the shop for an update.

Our Fall 2009 yarns are beginning to arrive and it is obvious that I am just a knitter who can't say "NO."

Just like my customers, I cannot resist a pretty skein of yarn. Tina and I began selecting our fall yarns back in January and since then have met with many vendors, visited hundreds of wholesale websites, spent 3 days walking the sales floor at market, drooled over thousands of yarn samples, and dreamed of hundreds of patterns and how our yarns would fit. No matter how I budget and plan, when I touch a wonderful skein of yarn and see the grand color card, I cave every time and go over my budget.

Now fall has arrived and our delivery guys are unloading boxes full of yummy new yarns every day. SO why am I confessing a weakness that you already know? First, I want you to know that every day is a new day for luscious yarns at Amazing Threads. Any day you need a break, a moment to relax or a need to touch some pretty yarns and drool, dream of new projects or just need a yarn fix, our shop and our staff is here to meet your creative needs. WE love sharing "what's new" with everyone. After all we get to touch all of our yarn more than once.

And second, its good to know that we all share the same "I can't resist it, I gotta have it" passion for great yarn. I have observed that we all have an addiction of one sort or another (exercise, food, shopping, gambling, wine, etc.), and mine is fiber and knitting. Even after more than 7 years of vendors, markets, color cards, and more I still have this passion. No matter how big my "stash" gets (Have you checked out the store lately?), there is always a new yarn to fall in love with and I can't say "no" to that passion.

Jane Slicer Smith Workshop Schedule
Join us for a day and half of great knitting and new techniques.

Drape, Texture & Miters: Tuesday, September 22: 1:30 pm-4:30 pm
This class is worked around the Drape style Jane uses in her book, firstly in the Basket stitch and also in her Intarsia designs. We are using this design technique in our Retreat Project in November. These Drape styles are knitted from edge to edge. The class will cover how to make this to fit to enhance the shape and leads into making miters as a color trim.

Fashion Show & Book Signing: Swing, Swagger & Drape: Tuesday, September 22: 7:00 p.m.-9:00 pm
See garments from the book & pick up your copy of the book prior to its official release.

Wednesday, September 23-Class Schedule
9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Texture

Traveling stitches, cables, bobbles & bells. All of these create raised stitches on to and across one's knitting. The class will explain how these are created and how they are often used to enhance designs. Understanding is the key to enjoying and using these techniques. Learn how texture can be applied to body shaping techniques to work the collar with the body of a garment. Jane uses many of these techniques in her new book.

1:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Simple Intarsia
Working vertical stripes, casting on in color blocks, joining colors and securing ends are all the tricks of the trade to be successful at Intarsia. Students only need to have good stockinette stitch knitting skills. Intarsia is not difficult but appears a scary knit. Master the vertical stripe and then step on to reading and following a graph and placing yarn for the upcoming row.

Call the shop to register-Space is Limited.
Classes are $60 per session (KCM's $55).
Register for both sessions on Wednesday & lunch is included.
Register for ALL 3 classes for $150
Fashion Show & Book Signing is FREE!
