Contrails Cardigan

The Contrails Cardigan is inspired by the long, white, feathery contrails left in the sky as planes pass overhead.  Knit using three strands of lace-weight yarn held together, the colors shift over the course of the garment.  Knit at a larger gauge, the fabric becomes soft, airy, and cloud-like.  Knit seamlessly from the top-down, it is a classic silhouette - no buttons or button band added!

Finished measurements:
Finished Bust Circumference: 32½ (35½, 40, 44½) (48½, 53, 56, 60½)”
Length: 17¼ (18, 18½, 19) (19¼, 19½, 20, 20½)” from base of neckband to lower edge

Suggested Yarn:
Three different lace-weight yarns of different colorways.  Any combination of bases is acceptable.  Recommend at least one base be a mohair to give it the airy feel as the designer intended.

Recommended yarn options include:
Manos del Uruguay Marina
La Bien Aimee Mohair Silk
Pascuali Mohair Bliss
La Bien Aimee Helix
or any other lace option

Required yardage based on size chosen.  All sizes would use only one skein of Marina.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS - Needle size may be adjusted for gauge
US 11/8mm 16” and 24” or 32” (depending on your size) circular needles and double-pointed needles, or size needed to obtain gauge
US 10½/6.5mm 24” or 32” (depending on your size) circular needle and double-pointed needles
Tapestry Needle
Waste yarn or Barber Cords to set aside stitches for sleeves.

11 sts and 16 rows/rnds = 4”/10cm in St st on larger needles using 3 strands held together.
Please note that changes in gauge will affect yardage used and final measurements.

This button-less cardigan is worked in one piece from the top down. After completing the raglan yoke, the stitches are divided for working the lower body and sleeves separately from the underarms down.

When working the sleeves in the round, you may use your preferred needle choice for small circumferences instead of a 16” circular and double-pointed needles; for example, a long circular needle with the magic loop method, or two short circulars.
