NEEDLES: The right needle enhances the knitting and crochet process as well as the outcome. The needle used for each yarn can create a different result and make it harder or easier to knit or crochet. This is true for yarn content (wool, cotton, acrylic, silk, mohair, and or a blend) as well. There are thousands of yarns and combinations. Some yarns just knit or crochet better depending on the needle type. We (staff of AT) know how yarns perform on our needles and we swatch or sample every yarn in the shop.

WOW...so much to consider. I recommend using the same needle to knit your project that you used for swatching. Consider a different type of needle if you don't like the fabric you are creating.

Most knitters today use circular needles. Circulars are easier on your hands and wrists and they come in lengths from 9" to 60." We are often asked which needles we prefer~ The staff are split between Addi Rockets and/or Squares versus Chiaogoo Red Lace. That is why we carry them both, plus Olive Woods and Lykke Driftwood and Bamboo, too~

Investing in a set or 2 of Interchangeable Needles means you are prepared for multiple projects Why 2 sets? The standard needle is 5." Which means the smallest diameter of knitting is 24"" with an 12" cord. For smaller diameter knitting (hats, sleeves) a shorter needle tip is needed (3.5"). So either 2 sets of interchangeable needles or 1 set and extra tips and cords.

There are differences among interchangeable sets. Only the Addi Sets have a click and lock mechanism that secures the cord to the needle. Sets come in 3.5" needles an 5" and 6." All sets begin at US 4 to 11 but all have additional cords and needle tips that can be added to each set. (Basic, Rocket, Rocket Square, Bamboo, and Olive Wood. Chiaogoo sets also have tips of 3.5" and 5" and are Bamboo Twist and Red Lace Metal. Chiaogoo needle tips are the most pointed tips. Chiaogoo sets contain sizes 2-15 and the needle tips twist on to the cord. Additional tips and cords are available too.

We stock Lykke wood needles and crochet hooks in fixed circulars and interchangeable sets which connect the cords to the needle tip using the screw on method as well.
